Monroe County Human Office Rhonda Piatt leads an emaciated horse Monday, Dec. 5 at the Monroe County Fairgrounds. Piatt seized 13 horses and seven dogs from an area farm last week due to neglect.

Thirteen horses and seven dogs were seized from a rescue facility near Woodsfield Friday, Dec. 2 after an investigation spanning several months.

A residence on South Paul Street was destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning. Woodsfield Fire Chief Mike Young believed outdoor Christmas lighting played a part in the fire.

Woodsfield Fire Department Chief Mike Young believes Christmas lighting caused a Dec. 6 house fire that resulted in a total loss of a home.

Young said the Woodsfield Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 1:32 a.m. Dec. 6 at 108 South Paul St. in Woodsfield.

Correction

In December 1’s Monroe County Beacon, information was incorrect in the story “County Home ready to reopen its doors.”

As of Monday, Dec. 5, Monroe County Care and Rehabilitation has not been recertified. The facility passed a survey, which could be one of two, with the second survey not coming for up to six months.
